August 10, 2010 – The Newberry Group acquires Baltimore digital forensics firm cmdLabs

The Newberry Group, Inc., a nationally-recognized IT services and security firm based in St. Charles, Mo., recently acquired Baltimore-based cmdLabs, LLC, a digital forensics and incident response company with clients in the public and private sectors including the Department of Defense and the State Department.

The new business is expected to augment and enhance The Newberry Group’s existing Cyber Security Practice, which already provides services to federal agencies including the Department of Defense, the USDA, and the Intelligence Community, Christopher J. Steinbach, Chairman and CEO of The Newberry Group, said.

“cmdLabs dramatically enhances the portfolio of digital forensics and cyber security capabilities we offer clients and is a perfect fit for The Newberry Group’s employee owner culture,” Steinbach said.

cmdLabs, including founding partners Eoghan Casey, Christopher Daywalt, and Terrance Maguire, will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Newberry Group beginning in August 2010.

"This merger expands our ability to provide government and commercial clients with an unmatched level of consistency and quality in digital forensics and incident response services,” Casey said. “In addition, it furthers our efforts to provide an employee culture of personal fulfillment and community involvement that ultimately benefits our clients and our community as a whole."

cmdLabs brings its roster of government and commercial clients as well as experience and resources in the areas of incident response handling and digital forensics investigations. cmdLabs’ three founding partners are well-published in those core areas and speak and teach regularly at conferences all over the world.

Casey, formerly the Information Security Officer at Yale University, has written or contributed to leading digital forensics publications including Digital Evidence and Computer Crime, Handbook of Digital Forensics and Investigation, and Malware Forensics. Daywalt has worked as a cyber investigations instructor and course developer for the Department of Defense and as an incident handler for commercial and government partners. Maguire, a former forensic detective, has provided digital forensics training for clients including the Department of Defense and the State Department.

Casey will continue to teach and conduct research for John Hopkins University, and Maguire will continue to lecture on incident response and computer intrusion investigations at George Washington University. For more information about cmdLabs, please visit www.cmdlabs.com.
